On September 22, the Office of International Affairs at TNUA invited Mr. Shih, a firefighter from the Guandu Branch of the New Taipei City Fire Department, to deliver a lecture titled “Disaster Preparedness: Don’t Be Afraid of Disasters.” The session was especially designed for international students, with live interpretation by AURORE SERVANT CASISAVA, a second-year student of the International MA Program in Studies of Arts and Creative Industries, ensuring that participants could fully understand the content in both Chinese and English.

The lecture covered fundamental fire safety knowledge, as well as practical tips on earthquake and typhoon preparedness. The timing of the event was particularly meaningful, as it coincided with the passing of Typhoon Ragasa near Taiwan that very evening, making the discussion all the more relevant.

For many newcomers to Taiwan, earthquakes and typhoons are unfamiliar experiences, and emergency alerts on mobile phones can easily cause confusion. This session aimed to equip students with the ability to stay calm during such emergencies, protect themselves effectively, and, when possible, extend assistance to others. Simple yet vital reminders were emphasized: stay indoors during typhoons, and find safe cover during strong earthquakes.
